Dr. Garner was born and raised in Raleigh. He has served in private practice neurosurgery since 1989. Dr. Garner is married with four children and five grandchildren, and a supporter of public safety agencies in Raleigh, including being the doctor for the local SWAT team.
Dr. Garner owns a farm in Johnston County and has one son who is a Raleigh police officer and another son who is a Raleigh firefighter.
